Macintosh OSX Wireless Network Configuration
Step 1: Get a certificate

  1. Make sure your Mac is on the Internet either through a wired or wireless connection.
  2. Click this link to get a certificate: Certificate Maker
    (NOTE: Use your OCU username and password combination. Your username should be entered as “ocu\<username>“. For example, a student with username “jsmith.stu” would enter “ocu\jsmith.stu”.)
  3. Save the certificate in a location you will remember such as your desktop. For simplicity sake, keep the file name “mycert.pfx”.

Step 2: Install your certificate

  1. Double click the certificate you saved in Step 1.
  2. Click OK to add your certificate to the login keychain.
  3. Enter “pass” as the password and click OK.
  4. (Optional) Three new certificates are now displayed in your Keychain application: one named after you, one named “Stars” and another named “StarNet”. For each one double click the certificate, expand “Trust Settings”, and select “Always Trust” where it says “When using this certificate”.

Step 3 for Leopard Users Only: Configure wireless settings

  1. Verify that you are at least on version 10.5.2.
  2. Open System Preferences, then Network.
  3. Click the Airport icon in the left panel.
  4. Verify Airport is turned on. Click the drop down arrow beside Network Name and choose Join Other Network.
  5. Enter WLANuserOCU for the Network Name.
  6. Click the drop down arrow beside Security and choose 802.1x WEP.
  7. Enter your OCU username and password in the boxes. The 802.1X box should stay at Automatic.
  8. Click Join. After a few seconds, you should see the Airport status change to Connected.
  9. Congratulations! Your Mac is now configured to connect to the wireless network. Click here for more information about using OCU’s wireless network.

Step 3 for non-Leopard Users Only: Configure wireless settings

  1. Click this link to get a file which automates the configuration:

  2. Double click the configuration file.
  3. Enter your OCU username and password in the appropriate fields.
  4. Make sure Airport is on and you have a wireless signal.
  5. Click Connect to connect to the wireless network.
  6. Congratulations! Your Mac is now configured to connect to the wireless network. Click here for more information about using OCU’s wireless network.
